Cosmetic Dental Treatments Part 1

cosMost people know what general dental treatments entail. General dentistry is concerned with preventive treatments and function. If your calendar was made of stone, twice a year cleanings and check-ups would be engraved on it for everyone in the family, every six months. Functional treatments include fillings and root canals. At one point in time, cosmetic dentistry only concerned esthetics, but today treatments can help restore function, too. Today’s blog, Cosmetic Dental Treatments Part 1 includes information regarding teeth whitening, dental bonding, and dental veneers.

There was a time that cosmetic dentistry seemed available only to the rich and famous, celebrities and politicians. Today it is available to anyone and there are several cosmetic treatments that vary in price and complexity. The cost of treatment is often based on complexity, invasiveness, and the dental material used. Today in cosmetic dentistry there is something for everyone. Some of the most basic and well-known cosmetic treatments include:

  • Teeth Whitening: Your dentist can bleach your teeth in the office or provide you with a take-home system. Office bleaching usually takes no more than an hour. Take-home systems, however, can take a few hours a day for several days. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments because the foods you eat and the beverages you drink stain your teeth over time.
  • Dental Bonding: A resin composite material is used for dental bonding. Boding can correct a variety of issues including stained teeth, exposed roots, and chipped, cracked, and broken teeth.
  • Veneers: A minimally invasive treatment where a wafer-like shell is bonded to the front of your teeth, dental veneers can be used to hide stained, crooked, chipped, and worn teeth, and teeth with gaps or spaces between them.
