At A New Smile Dental Group, we use a digital X-ray system, because patient health and safety is our primary concern. The level of radiation is reduced 90 percent with digital X-rays. Many people – and parents – have concerns about exposure to radiation, and at our practice, we keep it to the minimum level possible.

Digital X-Rays: The Benefits to our Patients

There are many benefits to using a digital X-ray system, including:

  • The images are available immediately on a computer screen
  • Less radiation is used to create the image
  • Digital images can be manipulated with contrast to reveal tooth problems
  • Larger photos are produced, with better accuracy on identifying problems
  • It is far more comfortable
  • Faster results – less waiting

Digital X-Rays Vs. Traditional X-Ray Technology

Some dental offices still use film X-ray systems. These are older systems that expose the patient to far more radiation than digital systems. The drawbacks of film-based X-rays go beyond exposure to radiation – the film must be processed to get the image, and is prone to error with under or over exposure, requiring another X-ray to be taken. The in-mouth papers used in traditional X-rays are uncomfortable, and often painful, and require sitting there for a longer period suffering through the process.

Digital X-ray systems have become the standard in modern dental offices. You will not be biting down on uncomfortable, sharp paper. A comfortably-shaped sensor is placed within your mouth. This sensor is connected to a computer and is easily moved into different areas of your mouth to capture the needed image. The images are produced in seconds, and become viewable on the computer screen. As a patient, you can be shown the dental issues easily on the screen as you are walked through what is needed in dental treatment.

We Practice Pain-Free Dentistry

Our commitment to providing our patients with pain-free dentistry includes the use of the most advanced digital X-ray system. Your comfort is always a priority at our practice. Many people have concerns about exposure to radiation, and our system was chosen with patient comfort and safety in mind.

Schedule a Dental Exam
