We Treat a Variety of Emergency Dental Situations
A New Smile offers San Fernando, Eagle Rock and Santa Clarita emergency dentistry care. This involves any sudden pain or injury to your teeth or gums. If the issue is potentially life threatening, you must go to the emergency room at your closest hospital, or call 911. Otherwise, contact our office for an emergency evaluation. We can help with your emergency dental problem.
Come to one of our Offices for an Emergency Appointment
We need to evaluate your dental problem, and to do so, we must see you in person. If you can’t arrange for a friend or family member to bring you to the office and take you home, consider using a ride service. If you are extremely nervous about dental treatment, we offer the option of sleep dentistry. With sleep dentistry, we use a pill or IV to help you feel calm and relaxed while treating your painful emergency.
Root Canal Treatment
If you are suffering severe pain in your tooth, gum, or jaw, it may be that an emergency root canal will be necessary. A root canal allows the doctor to remove infected tissue and end the discomfort of a dental infection. We may recommend the procedure if you have persistent pain in your tooth. In some cases, the infection must be treated prior to performing the root canal. Once the infection is under control, the tooth can be treated so that the problem is completely resolved.
If a tooth becomes severely damaged or develops a serious infection, we can remove it to ease discomfort and protect the health of surrounding teeth. Certain teeth cannot be saved, even with the most advanced dental treatments. If there is another option for your tooth, we will advise you so you can make a decision about extraction or treatment. In some cases, it may be necessary to remove a tooth for the health and safety of the patient. You don’t want the problem spreading to the nearby teeth, and an extraction can actually provide a great deal of relief.
Deep Cleaning (Full Debridement)
If you have soreness or bleeding in your gums we can perform a “deep cleaning,” also known as a full mouth debridement, to remove plaque from the teeth and any exposed portions of the roots. This deep cleaning can help maintain your teeth for many more years into the future. Some patients will require this procedure on a regular basis. In an emergency, this may be part of the treatment that will ultimately relieve the pain and discomfort you are experiencing.
If you have an impacted or damaged tooth we can administer an anesthetic and perform emergency surgery to address the issue quickly. A tooth that requires emergency surgery could be impacted, infected, or involve addressing a broken or seriously decayed tooth that is leading to severe pain. Call us so we can evaluate the situation and help you get your dental emergency resolved.
Open and Medicate
If you have serious discomfort in the teeth, jaw, or gums, your treatment may include performing a ten-minute procedure to ease swelling and pain. The procedure can minimize your discomfort until you can undergo a root canal or other endodontic procedure. The first step is always a full dental evaluation so the correct treatment is administered.
Emergency Cosmetic Dentist
If you chipped a tooth or even knocked one out in some sort of accident, we can administer emergency cosmetic treatment so that your tooth is back in place, or the chip resolved. If you had veneers installed in the past that are now chipped or damaged, we can help you solve your problem. Each patient and situation is different, and a full evaluation will be the first step to determining the correct treatment to give you back your smile.
