Improving Gum Health
According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 47 percent of adults over 30 have gum disease, while over 70 percent of people 64 and older have gum disease. This widespread and serious oral health disorder can lead to discomfort and even adult tooth loss. With periodontics, we can identify the warning signs of gum problems and recommend treatment to reverse or manage the disease.
What to Expect from Periodontics?
Periodontic treatment addresses issues related to periodontal disease. In the early stages, we may be able to treat gingivitis and reverse the disease. Once gum disease develops, then periodontics allows our team to manage the disease and prevent serious complications, such as adult tooth loss. Our periodontic treatments include:
- Laser Debridement: The process involves the use of dental lasers to remove infected gum tissue. Healthy gum tissue can then adhere to the teeth, closing periodontal pockets.
- Gum Therapy: With this treatment we remove plaque buildup from the surface of the teeth and exposed roots. Plaque is a result of bacteria and can lead to gum inflammation, a factor behind the onset of gum disease.
Are There Benefits to Periodontics?
There are multiple benefits to treating gum issues, including:
- Fresher breath
- No visible gum recession
- No loose or lost teeth
Patients who qualify for treatment have experienced symptoms of gingivitis or gum disease, which may include sore, red gums that bleed easily, as well as chronic bad breath, receding gums, or loose teeth.
