The Cost Of Dentures

costofDWith all the available dental treatments today there is no reason to live your life with missing teeth. Missing teeth can be an embarrassment and a social stigma, but they can also affect your health and your looks. Depending on how many teeth you have missing, sometimes your face takes on a sunken look, and because you can’t chew healthy foods your health can suffer. Missing teeth can also make you look older than you actually are, or as if you don’t take care of yourself. There are two main treatments available for people with missing teeth: dentures and implants. Today we discuss the cost of dentures.

Dentures or Implants?

Today’s dentures have improved greatly from when your grandparents wore dentures. Full dentures are one of the most common options for fully edentulous patients (people missing all of their teeth). They are reasonably priced, restore your smile, and give you back the ability to eat a variety of healthy foods. Dentures do have their drawbacks including slippage while chewing or talking, discomfort, bad breath, possible minor speech impediments, and they require adhesives to stay in place. However, for people with a weak or unhealthy jawbone dentures can be an appropriate choice.

The Cost

Depending on where you live in the United States, the fabrication time, the types of materials, and the dentist’s experience, a complete set of conventional dentures can run anywhere from $400 to $8,000 dollars. Dental implants, however, can cost $4,000 for each tooth.

Dentures are a removable prosthetic appliance made of a pink acrylic-resin base (the gum) and prosthetic teeth. Full dentures are required when a patient has no remaining natural teeth. For patients who still retain some of their natural teeth, partial dentures may be the appropriate treatment.
