If you’re considering replacing your missing teeth with durable, lifelike dentures, you’re probably curious about what they cost. Unfortunately, however, because these prosthetics are highly customizable, cold-calling local dentists probably won’t get you many answers. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect to pay for dentures, as well as a few ways you can make your treatment more affordable.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Dentures

Everyone’s smile is unique, and because of this, when you need dentures, they must be too. In addition to allowing you to enjoy a plentiful diet, your prosthetics must look realistic and fit comfortably. Thus, they must be available in a variety of sizes, so they fit your mouth securely. Additionally, the more teeth you need to replace, the more your denture will cost, so for example a partial will be less expensive than a full one.

Another important factor that can influence their price is the materials your denture is made of. Most bases are made of acrylic or resin, but some may have metal mesh inside for added strength. The teeth can also be customized with either porcelain or acrylic resin. Porcelain is heavier and more expensive, but it is more durable and usually lasts longer than other options.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Dentures?

In most cases, dental insurance providers consider dentures a “major procedure” and will cover 50 percent of their cost. You would then be responsible for paying the remaining balance out of pocket.  If you have dental insurance, your dentures will likely range from $250 to $2,000 per denture, or $500 to $4,000 for a complete set. This does not include any preliminary treatments such as gum disease therapy or tooth extractions.

How Much Do Dentures Cost Without Dental Insurance?

If you do not have your own dental insurance, your out-of-pocket cost for dentures will average around $1,300. Here’s a closer look at the different cost ranges for dentures if you are paying for your prosthetics without insurance:

  • Low-Cost Dentures: These generally range between $300 and $500 per denture, or $600 to $1,000 for a full set.
  • Mid-Priced Dentures: These may have more features than the low-cost varieties, and will range from $500 to $1,500 per denture, or $1,000 to $3,000 per set.
  • Premium Dentures: These typically range from $2,000 to $4,000 per denture or $4,000 to $8,000 a set.

Although you can certainly save money with the help of dental insurance, your dentist may accept payment plans to help make your new dentures more affordable if you don’t have your own coverage. Be sure to check their insurance and financing page for more information, or call the front office for details.

Remember, there are many factors that will determine the price of your new dentures, including the size and materials used, as well as whether you have dental insurance or will be using flexible financing. The best way to get an exact price for your restored smile is to visit your dentist for a consultation to go over your options and find one that works best for your oral health and your budget.
